Mukt Krishi Shikshan Kendra (Open School of Agiculture)
This school is affiliated and recognised by Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. It offers diploma and degree courses in agriculture and agro-based processing. This school is a blessing for the rural and tribal youth, because it is accessible, affordable, and directly applicable in earning a decent livelihood.
The school admits on first-come-first-serve basis, does not deny admissions for want of academic merit. It runs only on Saturday-Sundays thus making it possible for a farm laborer or working farmer to attend. It has staggered examination pattern, allowing breaks after completing a semester. Each semester earns an independent diploma, while it takes four years to get a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree. Students, who have failed in 12th (undergraduate) exams, can also get admission.
This open school of agriculture has received a tremendous response from rural and tribal youth and many pass-outs have entered agro-based processing enterprises. The 200-odd students of this school also act as messengers of agro technology to their home villages. There are many moments of pride in the 5-year record of the school, when its students took alerts about impending pest attacks and helped a big number of farmers save their crops.
